There was a renaissance in techno at the end of the aught decade. After years of redundancy in the scene, the minimal & tech house hype that swept the globe was finally waning. Meanwhile, a few artists were running their own self titled labels pushing a much harder and contemporary industrial techno sound. One of those few was an anonymous project titled TRAVERSABLE WORMHOLE, which was having a very successful run while shrouded in a veil of secrecy. Feeling the pressure to reveal himself due to many requests for live performances, Industrial Techno pioneer Adam X went public as the mastermind behind the project.
At the same time, Adam had been working on other music that was stylistically in opposition to his other projects. Vastly inspired by his early 1990 days in techno, he began recording music in a multitude of classic techno subgenres. Frankfurt EBM, Dub, Wild Pitch, Acid & Rave Techno and sometimes a mishmash of all. The concept was to pay homage to his youthful roots and bring these genres into the present day with modern production techniques.
Following the announcement of his identity as TRAVERSABLE WORMHOLE, Adam still felt the urge to have a project where he could work without expectation and/or stigmatization. Thus THE SECRET INITIATIVE was born.
Originally pressed & distributed in the USA, the first four pressings were difficult to find, and flew under the radar. Craving for a wider reach, Adam moved the pressing operation to Europe and handed the distribution reigns over to Hardwax in Berlin for Volumes 5, 6 & 7. A surefire power move, sales went up exponentially, and once again Adam had a successful anonymous project on his hands.
Though leaving a few clues which received some finger pointing in his direction, namely from the use of his own voice on a few songs, Adam vehemently denied any involvement in the project to those who tried to provoke a reaction from him. He only told a handful of friends the project was in fact his.
Having reached the finale of the ten volume quest, the time has come to shed the skin of anonymity. The initiative has been completed, the sound scriptures conveyed via analog and digital means and the creator revealed.
