about

In April 1990, deep in the heart of Brooklyn, DJ legend and techno visionary Frankie Bones launched the Groove Records store. From this unassuming location, the techno scene of New York City was born. Promptly after opening its doors, Adam X joined his older brother and the duo began their mission to create a US techno movement.

Groove Records focused solely on selling Techno music from around the globe while marketing its sound directly to the people by hosting many illegal rave events which came to be known as the techno underground. Local artists were given a platform for their early productions through the launch of ‘Brooklyn Groove Productions’ a label that who would help push the New York sound globally. It became the place for finding the newest and freshest music and quickly became a cultural institution. Simultaneously, and as a result an immensely diverse techno scene would emerge and thrive up and down the East Coast of America. "

Fast forward to 1994. At years end, Groove Records rental lease was expiring. Frankie and Adam patiently masterminded a bold strategy with third partner Heather Heart to grow the scene even further. In January 1995 the store re-opened as ‘Sonic Groove Records’ debuting in the heart of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. This ushered a new era and golden age for the Techno culture. By developing a huge clientele and introducing them to the cutting edge sound of the global techno movement, Sonic Groove would become one of the most iconic shops in techno history,
During this period, Adam X would launch the Sonic Groove Records imprint which would release music from fellow producers and close friends: Reade Truth, Neil Landstrumm, Abe Duque, Dietrich Schoenemann and many others. The unique sounds of these artists along with the productions from Adam X and Frankie would soon cement Sonic Groove into electronic world culture as both a label and store. For the next decade, the store would sell thousands upon thousands of hot techno titles on vinyl.

After 30 years of pushing unrelenting underground techno, Sonic Groove has decided to dig deep into it's DAT (Digital Audio Tape) archives and craft a compilation of it's most precious gems from its 90s roots. Fresh new mastering for the present day market is provided by Dietrich Schoenemann and Abe Duque. Documented proof that techno is timeless music for the eon's
